Tuesday I went out with the Spanish speaking sister missionaries from 11-1 and 6-9. They have had so many appointments lately that they have to split up to get to everyone. They live right here about 2 miles from our house so it is very convenient for me to help them. Also, when they teach a man, they need to have three sisters-so that is when I have often gone. Yesterday we taught Susie, Ivan and Marco. Marco I had met before a month or so ago. In that lesson I felt a sweet feeling about him. He however was being hesitant. When we saw him yesterday it was so great to see the change. He loves the scriptures and the ensign. Before he said he couldn't go to church because it was too early. Now he is excited to go and asked me to find out where a chapel is in California where he will be visiting next week. A couple of times we read some scriptures and asked him what he thought of them. On a few he looked at them for a while and then so sincerely said..I am not sure I understand what it is trying to say. He wasn't embarrassed or awkward. He is so sincere and wanting to learn. We talked about him getting baptized on April 10th. Ivan is only 20 and just great. His roommates rather wild lives and he want something different.. One of his friends is LDS and that is how he was first introduced to the church. We talked about tithing and he said it made complete sense for him that we should give back since God has given us so much. It is so much fun to teach someone who feels the spirit and excitement of the gospel. Susie is the friend of a lady whose son served in the mission where my missionary companion is serving with her husband. (That sounds complicated. ) She is a sweet lady. It was a lesson half in Spanish and half in English. A couple of her friends were there-one spoke pretty good spanish and certainly understood everything...the other served a mission to Germany so she just listened and smiled and made some great comments when asked. It was a great day. The only crazy thing that happened is that when one of the sisters went to get out of my car, the handle broke. I dont know what happened, but once we got it open we couldn't shut it. So we had to leave the car in an apartment parking lot with one door not even closed. Then we had to drive home with it. Finally we put the seat belt through the door handle and buckled it closed. That held it quite well-although on the turns it would still swing open 4 or 5 inches.
Yesterday I left early (7:30) and took a missionary with his companion to the doctor. He has been having sickness after sickness and I wanted to go and talk to the doctor and explain the extent of it. We ended up getting an appointment with a doctor that was about 40 minutes away. It was the only one we could get to see us right away. We have a list of all the LDS doctors in the area and so many are willing to work with the missionaries. Many dont charge. Dr Madsen was so pleasant and was a wonderful help. He did some blood work so we should know soon if anything serious is going on. By the time we had picked up the prescription, got breakfast tacos and I had taken them home, it was almost noon. I really enjoyed the time getting to know them. Elder Snyder is such a great young man from St. George. It was interesting to watch how observant he was of everything--pointing out interesting things in the city that he noticed to remembering directions. He is very genuine and so pleasant to be with. Elder Freckleton who is sick is our missionary who when he came out on his mission he could hardly get through a sentence because he stuttered so much. Now there is nothing. It is just amazing to see him talk away. He is a very sweet young man and is always so appreciative.
After the doctor I spent some time working on our newsletter in the office, took my car in to find out if they can fix it, gave a couple of elders rides to the employment center where they work 4 hours a week, cut Geoffrey's hair, worked on some on the paperwork for my parents and did some study on "hope". "Hope"fully I can study it enough to get a talk together for zone conference.
